Software Engineer II
StJude Children Research Hospital I worked at the St Jude Children Research Hospital in Memphis,TN as a
Software Engineer in the BioInformatics group for 3 years. St Jude is a non profit Research pedriatric
Hospital treating children with
cancer and catastrophic diseases. Patients come from all
over the world and they do not have to pay anything. Everything is free
for the patients. The whole hospital operations is funded by public
donations. Most of the hospital is
research though, to try to find cures and treatments for all these
catastrophic diseases in children. Many of the world best scientists
and researchers work here. I feel very privileged to have contributed my tiny
little part in this noble cause, towards helping saving children from
terminal diseases.
I work in the Hartwell Center in the hospital and we are a service
department to the researchers and scientists. We help them in their
research by building custom applications and tools for them. I am
doing mostly JAVA and PHP
development at work. It is very interesting and I am learning a lot of
new technologies, tools and Biology :) I work in a small software
development team of 8 people. My co-workers are from all over the world
- Gambia, India, China, Nepal, and USA.
Web Developer/Database AdministratorSAIR Linux GNU Certification
Before coming to StJude, I have worked at SAIR and GNU Certification as
a Database Administrator/Web Developer. I started working with the
company when it was only 7 persons big and watched it grow huge to more
than 120 persons and then drop down to nothing when most of the dot.com
companies were crashing and IT industry was going downhill. But it was
a great experience to work there and I got to learn a lot and develop
many applications still being used today.
I also worked as a Consultant/Developer with Waternet LLC and developed websites for some high profile clients.
Miscelaneous JobsUniversity of Mississippi
What else have I worked? Lets see.. I have been a security guard for
Football games, have been a library data entry operator filing in new
magazines and stamping them, and the one that I enjoyed the most, was
working in a Cafetaria, making hamburgers and fries. I did that for
almost one year, during my first year of univ. Was great fun and best
way to meet tons of people and gets lots of free food :) |
